Across the Globe to NYC!

hey blog!!!
I am back!! hmm, it has been a long time....more than 6 mths to be exact.
blogging seems to have cooled and not such an IN thing nowadays...what is in anyway. Facebook is also like duh.......but still these are still good tools to keep in touch and express oneself in cyberspace.

what has happened during this time? first of all.......YES! my FIRST trip to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! never thought i would visit the states this year or well, never even thought i will make a trip there. and what more.....I visited New York and Chicago!! 2 of the places i most want to visit in the states if i ever go! such good timing....its a bit again surreal. but thanks to my friend Casie.....if its wasnt for her, i wouldnt jump on the plane and travel 20 hrs across the globe (north pole) to NYC!

I always thought that it NYC was so beyond me....in terms of the long flight and also less favoured destination compared to the more commercialised LA, California places. But is so funny, just within 3weeks i was there! in the Big Apple, seeing the big yellow taxi, skyscrapers as u see in tons of Hollywood movies. NYC always appealed to me more than the west coast. It was more stylish, more cosmo, and city of breakthrough trends in arts, music.

And Chicago....! yes home of all my favourite 80s movies, the john hugh movies like Pretty in Pink and of course Ferris Bueller! it seemed like another cool place. and yes it really is.

The states is surprisingly is not as far as it seems. With modern planes and good inflight service, the journey wasnt that long as it looks. maybe partly i was also mentally prepared for it?

First i travelled nearly 4 hrs to HK. We reach at about 2 and the flight to NY was 6pm! so 4 hrs transit. Now that was the most tiring part. Also the night before, as usual....no sleep just last min packing. ate some horrible overpriced fast food in one of the cafes....and then slept on the benches. couldnt tong anymore!! soon 6pm was approaching......and announcement for boarding to NY-JFK! the plane was full....long queue. Finally captain said cabin crew, prepare for take off. "Here we go!"....first 5 hrs was fine...eating and stuff. The on demand ent on Cathay was great. good selection and easy navigation. the screen was big and gorgeous.
But next time i want one of those business seats! they had cool purple lights!

Last 5 hr also ok, wake up, eat, and watch more TV. middle 5 hrs was the worst. cant really sleep and felt so zombie like. didnt bath for almost a day!.... there was an old couple next to me. Mainland china....the lady looked very rural like. and talked real loud and rough. in contrast her husband was quiet. she was dressed shabily, overweight and untidy. and kept mumbling lousy food! cuz it was mainly western. she opted for instant noodles. but he husband was still loving towards her and very patient. oh well....she is lucky.

Finally....after 15hrs and dunno how many mins, we landed in NY! right on time! The flight was smooth. thank god, the weather and thanks to cathay crew.
NY airport was old looking. not much to look at actaully haha.

Immigration was some hassle ......forms may be confusing if you cant read english. there were quite a lot of mainlanders on our flight and some of them had green cards but spoke no english. some tried to cut q. i raised my voice at one woman asked her to back off. We didnt need a visa and just had to take finger scan and we are through! yay.

first stop......a night's rest at Comfort Inn near the airport. There was free shuttle and also free phone service to call the shuttle! just press the hotel u wanna go. that was great! in no time the shuttle came. It was a Big guy with a big van. he was funny...cracking jokes like u see americans do on TV. its american culture coming LIVE in front of me! heh heh.....

to be continued...
